Local Dining Spots in Downtown Abingdon, VA
A Highland’s agents wanted to take a few minutes to talk to you about some food that we have in the area. We have a lot of people coming through this area that are traveling or they’re in stopping to see family. If you really like to eat, Downtown Abingdon offers a lot of variety. Let’s begin our list with The Tavern here in Downtown Abingdon, Virginia. The Tavern was built in 1779 and is the oldest original building in Abingdon, Virginia.
The Tavern was originally built as a tavern and also inn that was able to accommodate many people that came in on stage coaches back in those days, including former president Andrew Jackson. So again, this is a very old building, was once a tavern, but has also been various other things. It was actually even a hospital for Civil War veterans, both for the Confederate and Union soldiers. It was also used as a post office, general stores and various other things like that. In 1994, that building actually went under new ownership and is currently run as a restaurant and as a tavern. Again, The Tavern offers international cuisine. So if you like anything with international flavor, like a German style food and that sort of thing, then this is definitely a great spot to check out.
This restaurant here is actually a casual restaurant so you don’t have to dress up or anything like that. If you’re looking for a casual restaurant here in Abingdon, Virginia definitely check out The Tavern. Aside from that, there are also various other great spots to eat including Rain Restaurant, that’s a very nice restaurant that locals enjoy often. They have some awesome food. Aside from that, we’ve got 128 Pecan. Just a few blocks down, we’ve got the Peppermill, also on Main Street. We’ve also got Bonefire Smokehouse Grill on Main Street. And another favorite, White Birch Food and Juice. That’s definitely an awesome place. It’s a restaurant that has all natural foods. So if you’re looking for a healthy option, then that’s definitely a great spot to check out.
They have a fresh pressed juice, burgers and other meats that are locally grown. So that’s definitely an awesome thing that they are involved in helping out the community and the local farmers. So, again, there are a lot of different restaurant options here and great places to eat in Abingdon,Virginia and the Highlands Region.
