It’s a new year and everyone is making their resolutions to accomplish, but have you thought about the list of resolutions for your home? Below is our top 10 list of New Year’s resolutions for your home in 2019.
- De-clutter: De-cluttering will give your space a fresh feel. The task of de-cluttering your home can feel overwhelming! Ease this by breaking the tasks down to a space by space basis. For example, de-clutter kitchen counters, de-clutter hallway closet, etc.
- Get Organized: Again, make the task less daunting by breaking it down by each room or space. If needed, add additional storage spaces. Creating a space for everything will make clean-up easier the next time the items are used and not to mention will make it easier for you to find the items the next time they are needed. Adding organization will allow you to spend less time searching for what you need for a project and more time completing the project!
- Cut Energy Costs: Who doesn’t like saving money? Get into simple habits that can add up over the year like switching off lights when not in a room, waiting to only run the dishwasher or washer when there is a full load, using a clothes line or drying rack instead of the dryer. Other energy saving tips is to switch to a programmable thermostat and use LED light bulbs.
- Purify Indoor Air: During the winter, the potential for harmful contaminants is higher due to the windows and doors being shut tight (to keep the cold air out!). Take precautionary steps to help purify the air inside your home with these tips. Help to eliminate potential contaminants by keeping furnace filters changed regularly, use localized ventilation in the kitchen and bathrooms, and using a portable air cleaner.
- Keep Your Home Safe: Check your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors to make sure they are all working properly and consider doing a radon test to ensure your home does not have any potential health hazards.
- Make List for Improvements/ Needed Maintenance: Make a list of any home maintenance or improvement projects that you want to accomplish this year. Prioritize your list with the tasks that need attention the most to items that are less urgent.
- Create a Yearly Budget: The first of the year is a great time to create a yearly budget and help keep your finances in check throughout the year. Add items from your improvements and maintenance list made above to see how they are going to fit into your budget. Hence the importance on prioritizing your list.
- Prepare Your Home for Entertaining: With spending more time with family and friends making a spot on most of our yearly resolution lists, create a space that encourages you to take action this year! Refresh your living spaces to make it look the most comfy and inviting to guests and make your kitchen a place to allow prep and serving to be a breeze. Don’t forget to think about the warmer months ahead and create a plan for updating outdoor patios/porches as well. If you create spaces that make having guests over less work (and less stress), you may just become an entertaining queen (or king) in 2019.
- Stress Less: Using maintenance-free materials will have you worrying less. These items are built for durability and trouble-free service, which means one less thing that you’ll need to worry about each year.
- Get Involved: Support and promote your community by getting involved. Volunteer your time and energy to help others or sign up for local classes. Doing this will show your support for the community and is a great opportunity to connect with others who share similar interests to you.
